THERMAL COMFORT IN SCHOOL ENVIRONMENTS: ANALYSIS OF THE THERMAL CONDITIONS OF THE CLASSROOMS OF THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, CAMPUS PONTA GROSSA - BRAZIL

Resumen
The environmental conditions of the classrooms have influence on student performance student. Engineering courses in most offer classes full time, and lasting 5 years on average, leading students to spend much of their day in classrooms, which justifies the analysis of classrooms environmental conditions, such as: cleanliness, organization, storage, lighting, temperature, noise and school furniture. Thermal comfort is of great importance in student performance, as a school environment with excessive heat leads to fatigue and drowsiness. But an environment with little heat decreases the concentration and attention of the student, because the body needs heat and increases the body activity to get warm. This article aimed to analyze the thermal conditions of the classrooms Federal University of Technology, Campus Ponta Grossa - Brazil, where there are students in the areas of Production Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering. First, a preliminary study was conducted to determine the significant point of each class, ie, a point of measurement that represents the entire environment, this being the place where the final measurements were performed subsequently. Still in the preliminary study, it was calculated the sample size of classrooms that would be necessary to make environmental measurements in the definitive study. The final environmental measurements were performed during the course of the classes and, along with the measurement of environmental variables were collected personal information from students about the sensation and thermal preference, to evaluate thermal comfort in accordance with ISO 7730 - Ergonomics of the thermal environment - Analytical determination and interpretation of thermal comfort using calculation of the PMV and PPD indices and local thermal comfort criteria. It was concluded that 81.82% of the rooms assessed meet the conditions for thermal comfort according to existing standards, while 18.18% of them do not meet. Of the two classrooms that did not meet the thermal specifications, one has presented conditions of heat, while the other presented cold conditions.
